So, I've been thinking about the Akaviri Kiai and Dragonknights, and have also talked with some other people, and have come to a decision on the mechanics and lore behind it. The Kiai, whilst it operates on the same principal as the Thu'um, is comparatively more versatile for non-dov, and as such is far more common in Akavir, particularly among the Akaviri Men and Tsaesci (whereas the Ka Po'Tun prefer to learn the Thu'um). It operates by way of using short vocalisations with little meaning (although meaning must be imparted on them when they are used, that is a purely mental aspect, and they lack any meaning as actual words) that are shouted in time with either the Doom-Drum or one's movements. The Kiai is made of three parts, an element, modifiers (any number of these, although there will be a limited amount in implementation), and a cast; A Kiai can be used either with just the element, the element and modifiers, or the element and a cast. The (cardinal, we may add extra elements later) Elements are represented with the symbols seen in Sky Ruler Temple. The Elements are as follows:
- Dragon(born)
- Earth
- Fire
- Water
- Air
Implementation-wise, each segment of a Kiai is its own shout (with no cooldown), so there's separate kiais for every component, the effect kiais will apply some buff or other on-self effect when used, that can then be combined with modifiers and/or a cast for different effects.
This is all very basic ideas though.
